R.I.P. Elantra

In case any of you haven't heard yet, there has been a serious death in my family. My Hyundai Elantra, rugged as she was, couldn't withstand a faceplant into the gaurdrails last Friday. Little bro fell asleep at the wheel driving to work after we had a night of boozing, only to be woken by the sound of shredding tire and Korean metal as he hit the gaurdrails. Even though I was pissed as hell, it could have been worse. Doing 60mph on a busy highway and falling completely asleep, who knows what could have happened. He could have went left, instead of right, and hit a car head on. If there weren't gaurdrails, it would have been straight into some monster trees. He could have took the truck instead of my car, in which case it would have went right over the gaurdrails. A million other things could have happened that would have led to a much more tragic ending, for the car, or for Matt. So in light of it all, who gives a fuck? The car might be totalled, but Matt walks away without a scratch, and I get to have fun car shopping again. Thats what insurance is there for right? As you may know, Collin and I have a bit of a knack for writing impromtu poetry, or at least we think so. So here you go Collin, in memory of a car taken from us all too soon...

RIP Elantra

Oh, Elantra, the times we have had...
We've seen some damn good times,
And ohhhh yes, the very bad

Trips to the bar while riding in the "boot,"
Seeing girls and Penn Yan townies as we pass
And tooting a horn that made the manliest hoot,

Pick up girls who want to ride in style,
I know you don't like metal
But bitch, don't you dare touch my radio dial!

You hit a couple deer here and there
And got pulled over by the cops as I screamed
"This is fuckin bullshit! It's not fair!"

Now it's time to say goodbye
Even though it wasn't a pleasant ending
You took it like a champ, and bro didn't die

After all that fussing, it turns out that the damage assessment fell just short of being deemed "totalled," so the insurance company will be cutting a check to get it fixed.

Glad to hear your brother is ok. Good luck with all that insurance stuff and getting the car fixed because they are never the same after an accident like that...aka...mine isn't right and I am still dealing with insurance ! Good luck though...too bad you don't get to go car shopping

Sorry to hear about your car Brady, but you're right there are definitely worse things that can happen. I'm sad I never experienced anyone riding in the "boot". I'd always heard about it but never saw it.
